Located 5.8 miles north on Highway 50 from Lakeside Inn and Casino is a small Nevada State Park called Cave Rock. Although this park is very small, it delivers beautiful views of lake Tahoe. I have been fishing here for many years and usually have good success. You can pull up right to the edge of the lake and bait fish for German Brown and Rainbow Trout. You can use power bait, salmon eggs, minnows or inflated night crawlers off the bottom but I find using a ¼ ounce gold colored Kastmaster on a windy day is the best chance to pull in a lunker. The two fish pictured were pulled in within 30 minutes of each other on a blustery day fishing off the rocks by the boat ramp. Entry fees are $6.00 all day or $2.00 for a brief site seeing stop.
Tahoe Fishing Report, Mike Furbee
For you outdoor sports enthusiast you will find current information on one of my favorite sites, www.carsonsports.com . Whether you want to “wet a line”, go to a baseball game, football game, basketball game, or just check out the activities available during the time you will be here this site is chock full of information. Don Quilici is based in Carson City, which is about a 30-minute drive from Lakeside. He covers activities all around this general area. I highly recommend the fishing report he updates on a weekly basis.
